Stewart College was started by owners Kristina and Randy Stewart in 2001. It is one of the only independent, accredited language training institutions in Victoria, offering a wide range of ESL (English as a Second Language) programs. We believe students learn best when they are in a strong community, and familial atmosphere. We keep strong relationships: of course we learn student names, but we also know who they are as individuals.
Our English courses include part-time and full-time Power English (English as a Second Language), Academic English and Vacation English programs for all seasons and ages.
We also offer weekly ‘Coffee & Conversation’ (free) and orientation sessions each Monday for new students.
Stewart College is located in the heart of Victoria British Columbia, Canada, next to the YM-YWCA, with its many sports facilities and the Royal Theatre. In the next block, you can enjoy the Greater Victoria Public Library. Sightseeing attractions, restaurants and shops are just a few steps away!
Victoria is consistently rated one of the best places to live in Canada.
Home to about 300,000 people, Victoria is renowned for its friendliness, cleanliness and wonderful parks and gardens. It is the location for the famous Butchart Gardens, the prestigious Empress Hotel, Antique Row, theRoyal British Columbia Museum, and beautiful parks. However, recently Victoria has become a new hotspot for young entrepeneurs, outdoor enthusiasts, and young families.

Located in a sub-Mediterranean zone, Victorians enjoy some of the warmest weather in Canada. Victoria boasts an average of 2,183 hours of sunshine yearly, and an eight month frost free season. Ocean breezes keep summer days from getting too hot, but summer evenings can be cool; therefore a sweater or a light jacket is recommended. Although winters are mild and rarely include snow, warmer clothing is recommended between the months of November and March.
Stewart College is located in a 3.5-storey building with skylights and lots of big windows. We have a lot of bright, comfortable space for hanging out, learning, and making friends! Unlike many language schools, we do not share our space with other businesses; the only people in our school are students and staff!
The newly renovated media room is open to students from 8:30 – 5:00pm Monday to Friday. There’s a big-screen TV with blu-ray, internet and TV for use in classes and during movie activities. We also have computers for students to use for homework or keeping in touch with friends and family.
You are welcome to access Stewart College wifi, free of charge, on your laptop or electronic device throughout the school.
The kitchen / lunchroom is available for use by all students. You have access to microwaves, toaster ovens, kettles, cutlery, plates and coffee maker. A morning snack and drinks are put out for students after 8:30am to encourage students to come in early and practice their “conversational English” with other students.
Our Games Room includes air hockey and foos ball tables for students to enjoy between classes.
TV, DVD, and sofas make a comfortable area for students to relax and talk with other students.
Classrooms are large, bright and comfortable. Each room has at least 3 windows allowing for lots of natural light.
Our staff can provide you with information about life and services in Victoria. We can also help if you are looking for work or volunteer placements, or for information about social events and activities.
We can arrange Homestay Accommodation for you with a Canadian family. Alternatively, if you’d like to arrange your own shared accommodation or room rental, we provide information about available accommodation.
We’ll help you practice your English, and make new friends by having fun doing our twice-weekly activities. Check out our event page to see what we have planned – you’ll find social, cultural, sightseeing and sport activities taking place on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
For international calls, $5 and $10 phone cards with excellent rates to students’ home countries may be purchased at the school office.
